life

Sometime ago this whole thing started...without purpose or intent. Where it would go I didn't know. I haven't been diligent about sustaining it's life. I am not who I was before. I can't unknow what I have learned.

first attempt

As promised, here is the very first quilt I ever attempted. Every stitch done by hand. I didn't know how to use a sewing machine. Didn't know what the word 'bias' meant. I did this in 1991 I remember it was at the beginning of the first Gulf War I was riveted to the TV, but kept sewing. Yes, it really is as crooked as it looks.
Not having any lessons or teachers at my beginning didn't stop me...I think if anything it made me more daring, I learned from the very start (and to quote the now famous Tim Gunn) "Just make it work!"
I'm glad to still have it-reminds me of how far I've come.

Take Our Badge

I am here to make a fresh start. Things got a little more than crazy there for a while....as this blogs grows, I will be sharing more of those details. The catalyst for this new beginning is the Crazy Quilt Journal Project 2012. I have for years admired the modern examples of this Victorian art form. I made my first attempt the summer of 2008...hence the original idea for this blog. So here I go again.

Ten days in an apartment in Thousand Oaks, California.....Armed with J Marsha Mischler's motif book and a Judith Baker Montano's Elegant Stitches, I went at it. Most things I do I call 'experiments', so no great expectation of perfectionism is tied to it; and that allows me lots of leeway for learning.        Obviously I didn't know too much about piecing, but I enjoyed the embroidery and seam treatments. I was hooked.

For the next few days here, I am going to practice my blogging skills. I will share my early beginnings into the quilt world. Feel free to let me know what I could change or do better... I'm still experimenting!

09-09-09

I think today is as good a day as any to start a blog. I have been inspired and instructed by so many fabulous stitchers and artists out there in blogland...it's time for me to get on board.
My current interests, and focus for this site, are crazy quilting and everything that goes along with that: embroidery, beading, fabric, design, ribbon work, etc. Hence the title: 'Sew Crazy'...I added on the 'Days' as a catch-all for other things that become facinating on any given day. [food & cooking are a strong possibility] Enough said.
